How To Buy A Domain Name
65Learn How To Purchase A Domain Name On GoDaddy.com - Tutorial Hub
My first online tutorial here on HubPages - OMG!!!
In
this hub I'll explain the importance of buying domain names and follow
up with my first ever HubPages tutorial video. Normally I'm a bit shy
and appear "geeky" on camera but I thought I'd give it a go!
Personally,
I use GoDaddy for purchasing domain names. It seems that it'll become
increasingly important for online marketers to know how to buy and
manage their own domain names and build their own websites. I do hope
this helps you. If you feel that I've overlooked some important points
or have and questions do let me know in the comments section below.
What is a domain name?
If
you are just starting out making money online one of the first things
that you'll have to learn how to do is buy a domain name. First of all
- What is a domain name? A domain name is basically a web or Internet
address. It can end with .com, .net, .org., .gov or .uk or .fr for
specific countries. Domain names are also referred to as URLs. URL
stands for Uniform Resource Locator and describes where specific files
may be found on the Internet.
Why should I buy a domain name?
As
time goes by more and more affiliate programs seem to be leaning in the
direction of REQUIRING that their affiliate sales online marketers (me
and you!) build sites that link into their programs from domain names
that you OWN. Now, I don't want to scare you into having to buy your
own domain names. But, it seems that that the affiliate marketing
industry's trend is for marketers to own their own websites. This means
no more sticking affiliate links into other websites and hoping for the
best. Thus, as an affiliate marketer you'll most likely eventually have
to build your own website. While this task seems daunting at first I'd
like to demystify it in my future hubs.
Trading and auctioning off domain names
Another reason why people buy domain names is to trade them on domain name auction websites. These people are known as "domainers" and there is a whole industry built around "domaining". In fact, there are thousands of individuals who make a full-time living online trading domain names!
How to buy a domain name on GoDaddy.com
GoDaddy.com is by far the biggest and most popular domain name registrar on the Internet today is where to go to buy and manage your domain names. In addition to buying domain names on GoDaddy they also offer services such as website hosting and domain name auctioning. Personally, I have used them for buying domains and have dabbled in their auction services.

Not bad for your first online tutorial David. I personally buy all my domains through Godaddy. I have never had a problem with them. I use to host my domains through them too but I've been reading a lot that it's not a wise decision to host with the registrar of your domain. Its like having all your eggs in one basket. So, I host with Hostgator and they are great.
Question, do you have much success with .info domains? I have only purchased dot coms and once a dot org. Would you use it as a single page landing page or squeeze page then link to a dot com. How do you use your domains?
The video was a nice touch to an already great hub.
That's great info on the .info, you can't get much cheaper than that. Is a year as long as you can get for a dollar? I think it's wise to go with established companies these days, if a smaller company went under and just disappeared it's not the dollar so much as could you get your domain transferred somewhere else. Very Good Hub..
