How To Point Your Domain Name To Your Web Hosting Company
86Making a Website Step 2: Pointing Your Domain Name URL To Your Website Host
Make your own website - learn to point your domain to your web hosting company
After you buy your new domain name you'll have to point it to your website host. In this short tutorial hub I'll teach you how to do that in a YouTube video below. If you have any questions or comments please let me know in the comments section!
Pointing your domain is an important step in making websites
If you're trying to make money online one of the most important things you'll have to learn is how to make your own website buy and manage your domain names. A domain name is simply a the name on which you'll create your website.
A hosting company "hosts" the files of your website on a server
After you purchase your domain name the next step you'll have to do is "point" it to your web host. A web host is a company that provides website hosting services, compared to GoDaddy.com, which is a domain name registrar. While GoDaddy also provides website hosting services it's advised to host your websites with an other website hosting provider.
I use BlueHost.com for web hosting services - so far they've done a good job
There are many companies claiming to be the best web hosting companies! Personally, I use BlueHost.com as a discount web hosting company. They offer many web hosting packages and deals. I pay $6.95 per month and can host an unlimited number of websites. Overall I have been very pleased with their web hosting services and have found that my sites load fast enough. When I fist started making money online I was a total rookie and their tech support staff were very patient with me and did a wonderful job helping me to get up and running. For more information about managed web hosting there are many forums that you can search on Google.
Note: If you sign up for a web hosting account through my BlueHost affiliate link above I'll be more than happy to try to help you and answer any of your questions! Thanks!
How to point your website: Follow these steps
After you buy your domain name at GoDaddy you'll have to wait a few minutes for it to appear in your domain name manager (usually around 3-5 minutes). After that you'll have to click on your domain name and "point" it to your web host (Bluehost in my case). Below "Domains" in the upper-left of your screen click on "My Domains". Scroll down and find the name of the domain you just purchased. Click on it. Now you're in your domain manager dashboard. Under "Nameservers" click on "Manage". Now you'll have to key in something like this: NS1.Bluehost.com and NS2.Bluehost.com. Your host will tell you what to key in. Then click "ok".
Your job creating a website is FAR from finished here - I'll teach more in future hubs!
At this point you're done pointing your domain to your website host. Your next step is to go to your host and set the domain name up there and install your "content manager". Personally, I am using WordPress on all my sites. In my next hub I'll teach you the next steps you need to know to get your own website up and running!
I hope this has helped. If I've left out any important steps or your have any questions please let me know in the comments section!

This hub is great resource for those who dont know how to point to another hosting. And the video gives your hub above and beyond clarity.
I'm finding your hubs a great source of helpful info. I created a new landing page last night and spent most of today figuring out how to do what this hub explains. I finally figured it out and then found your hub on the same issue I had been having. Thanks again Dave.
Much of this is still Greek to me but your info hubs are so clear. I do like your how to videos as they give plain and simple instructions.
Hey Dawei you mentioned about GoDaddy in your hub and you host your sites with BlueHost. I am also hosting my sites with them now. A few of them in fact. And I am glad that I will now get rid of dreamhost. I have hosted just one domain with GoDaddy. Wanted to ask if I can get more than one domains from them at the price they offer i.e. 6.99 ... I don't think they will let you have more than one at this low price.
I wasn't asking about hosting. I didn't make myself clear. I was asking if one can register more than 1 domains with GoDaddy for 6.99. But thanx anyways, I got my answer.
Very good information. Just what I need! - Carol

Thankyou for an interesting and helpful hub.
Being able to point your domain to your host could save a lot of time if you can do it your self. Nice one.
I've been using this product on my website as a means to help students learn better English. Each lesson plan has it's own 'feature video' directly linked to YouTube, as well as it's very own 'TV channel' based on the topic of the lesson. So if the lesson topic is about 'Flying History' - the 'TV Channel' will be a selection of videos pulled straight from YouTube, all about Flying history.
All I can say is - IT WORKS and needs to be receiving some of the web's best awards!! A great product for anyone who wants to put videos on their websiite!

As you said Bluehost allows unlimited domains/websites. So for all your Domain Name Servers, if you point to same NS1.bluehost.com, then how Bluehost server can figure out which Domain Name needs to point to which Hosted Site? Just Curious...
THANKS!
What a great video! Very helpful. Thanks!
thanks so much
help me big time!!!
Thank you - really helpful. My host company gave me no instructions and this made it really easy for a novice
Hi. Popularity of a word before expansion plays large role in delivery by search engines. An example: http://www.ears.su/ - ears - popularity of a word. Thks
How does the domain get associated with your Bluehost hosting account? What prevents any Bluehost user from claiming the domain? The Nameservers seem generic to Bluehost and not specific to your account.
@Michael, In Bluehost, you need to add entry under Add-on domains. Put in your domain name and map it to a directory in the web host.

Very good info. Just constructed my own website a couple of months ago, so that I can be my own webmaster. Really like doing this kind of thing; but enjoy the creative part more than the tech. part.
