A few little tips for being successful online

OMG - This is my 50th Hub!!!

I can't believe it - this is my 50th hub! I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everybody on Hubpages.com who have joined my fan club and thank everybody who have left comments on my hubs. I have truly been touched.

Over the past few weeks I saw the traffic on my hubs jump up dramatically coupled with an increase in my Hubpages score. Although I'm still relatively new to hubpages (around 9 months I think) I have learned some key elements to how to be successful online and how to be successful on Hubpages along the way. I'd like to share them with you here and welcome your comments!

PROVIDE ORIGINAL CONTENT

We hear this over and over from Google. All they want is something new and original. If Google were to allow (index) duplicate content uncontrollably the value of the search engine would become worthless and the company would go bust. We all need a good search engine to find information every day. So, rather than viewing Google as some sort of enemy why not embrace them and their need for good, original content. The same goes for Hubpages.com and other websites. If we spammed them continuously with junk duplicate content eventually they'd start financially struggling too. So, what we write online must at least have some degree of originality.

How to make your Hubpage score jump up into the 90s

I'm still not in the 99-100 Hubpage score club yet but I have an idea of how to get there. Over the past few weeks my score went from somewhere in the 70s (I think) and it's 95 as of today. How did this happen? I wrote two key hubs that made the score jump up: How to Become a Happy Person and List of Top Charities. You'll see three commonalities between the two hubs. One, they're both ORIGINAL CONTENT, Two, I did a lot of THINKING before I wrote them and Three, they're long - lots of text. The Internet and Google have a love affair with text. The more original and informative text we can provide the better.

A word for newbies - What kinds of hubs can I write?

Write product reviews

The kinds of hubs that you can write are infinite. Hubpages.com lends itself very well to writing and submitting product reviews since we have the opportunity to insert eBay and Amazon.com affiliate sales boxes into our hubs. The key here, however, is to find a product that hasn't had too many reviews written yet. If you chose a really popular product, eg iPods, it's too competitive and your hub won't appear on the Google and or Yahoo search.

Write How-To articles

Hubpages also lends itself very well to "How To" articles. I did a hub called How to Make a Facebook Group and it's gotten a ton of hits off of both Hubpages internally and both Google and Yahoo. How-to articles are known as "evergreen" content because they'll always be useful and fresh on the Internet.

Write hubs on current events

The third kind of article which I've found works quite well on Hubpages is a submission that discusses and analyses a current event. You'll get lots of hits in the short-term. But, the long-term success of this kind of article is questionable as the online searches for the key words related to the particular current event will eventually become less frequent.

For now I'll leave it at that. Again, I thank all the hubers out there who have inspired me to keep writing on this wonderful website and look forward to learning more from all of you!

Cheers,
- Dawei :-)

I disagree a bit on current events - they don't really become popular over the years because it happens just once. One exception is a new theme park area, written in general.

I'm very new to HP and I'm loving it. I love writing and don't class it as work, however I would be lying if I said that the thought of making a bit of money isn't inviting. Thanks for your hub.
